Labor Day weekend temperatures broke a record

WASHINGTON — The recent reprieve in August’s oppressive heat has been more than just pleasant — it’s been record-breaking.

Temperatures at BWI Marshall Airport only reached a high of 63 degrees on Saturday. The last time temperatures dropped that low on Sept. 2 happened in 1935, with a then-record of 64 degrees.

At Dulles Airport, temperatures were recorded at 61 degrees, the lowest summer high since June 1972. Temperatures dropped that year immediately after the onslaught of Hurricane Agnes, one of the largest June hurricanes ever recorded.

The fall-like weather will be replaced by a pleasant summer feel for the rest of the , however, with temperatures reaching 80 degrees and humidity staying low.
