Virginia beats Purdue, advances to first Final Four since ‘84

For the third time in school history, Virginia is headed to the Final Four.

One year after an embarrassing first-round upset, the Cavaliers have come full circle, beating third-seeded Purdue in overtime 80-75 Saturday night in Louisville, Kentucky to advance to the Final Four for the first time since 1984.

Virginia had come up short of the Final Four in its last four Elite Eight runs, the last of which came in 2016. In the Cavaliers’ prior two Final Four appearances, they have yet to advance to a national title game.
