Snowcrew.org matches willing volunteers with snowed-in residents

WASHINGTON — Shoveling this wet, heavy snow can be difficult for people who are healthy — it can be impossible for those who are disabled or injured.

is a web service that aims to match up people who need to be shoveled out with people who can help.

Snowcrew.org comes from D.C.’s own Joseph Porcelli, who built snowcrew.org on the See Click Fix platform.

If you are able to shovel, keeping proper form is key to preventing injury. Push snow out of the way if you can, or lift small amounts of snow so you don’t strain your back. Also, lift with your legs as if you are doing a squat, physical therapists say.
