Not getting enough sleep? You’re not alone

WASHINGTON – Americans – and Japanese – get the least amount of sleep on work nights, a finds.

The average American gets about six-and-a-half hours of sleep.

Meanwhile, the National Sleep Foundation found that those in the United Kingdom, Germany and Mexico get about seven hours of sleep a night.

Americans and Japanese say they take at least one nap every two weeks, perhaps to compensate for their six-hour average.

On average, Americans say they needed a little more than seven hours of sleep a night to function, the study says.

At least two-thirds of people in each country studied say they watch television before going to bed.
