Take 2: Ex-Redskin Darrell Green on team-name debate

WASHINGTON – He says his words were twisted.

“As it got put out, you did not say it the way I said it,” Redskins Hall of Famer Darrell Green told ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp in-studio Thursday, as he described his comments earlier in the week.

Green told ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp Monday that he believes, if people deem the “Redskins” name offensive, there should at least be a discussion about a name change.

His former teammate, Art Monk, said the team should consider changing the name.

“Everything to me was a hypothetical,” Green said on Thursday, describing the initial interview and his own comments. “‘Oh, if someone is offended, oh, I agree — I think it deserves and warrants a conversation.’ Period.”

Now if you want to take it any further I don’t have anything else to say. I don’t want the Redskins to change their name.”

His comments earlier in the week made national news, and ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp has since clarified what Green said

However, when ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp anchor Mike Moss told Green Thursday to call at any time if he feels anything is mischaracterized, Green said “it’s not even that kind of a story.”

“If it was I wouldn’t be here,” Green said.

Green played for the Redskins for 20 years.
