Ƶapp wins 3 Edward R. Murrow awards

WASHINGTON – Ƶapp has won three regional Edward R. Murrow awards including a win for best investigative reporting.

The Radio Television Digital News Association announced the Thursday. The 2013 awards recognize the best journalism that radio, television and online news organizations produce.

Ƶapp was honored in the Breaking News category for its team coverage of superstorm . Former Sprawl and Crawl reporter Adam Tuss was honored for his work . And Brennan Haselton was recognized for his .

“This is another proud moment for the talented journalists in the Ƶapp newsroom. While the D.C. region knows and respects Ƶapp for breaking news and superior programming, it’s an honor to be recognized by our peers,” says Program Director Laurie Cantillo.

The winning reports will be entered into the national competition for large market radio stations, which will be judged this summer and awarded in New York in October.

Ƶapp’s sister station WFED won for and will also compete for a national award.

Including these three Edward R. Murrow awards, Ƶapp has won 11 major journalism awards for work produced during the past year, says Senior News Director Mike McMearty.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the RTDNA judges with three Edward R. Murrow awards – truly the gold standard in our profession. These awards are a reflection of the dedication, motivation and professionalism of the entire Ƶapp newsroom staff,” McMearty says.
