Man impersonating a cop in Arlington County

WASHINGTON – Arlington County Police officers are looking for a man who tried to impersonate a cop in two stores in the Pentagon City Mall on January 3.

The suspect flashed a badge and claimed to be a detective in both instances, police say. Investigators say he then tries to “seize” wrist watches, which he claims are evidence in a case.

In both cases, the store employee refused to hand over the watches and the man fled, police say.

He’s described as a black man, standing about 5-foot-8-inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. When impersonating a police officer, witnesses tell police the man was wearing dark colored jeans, a gray jacket and a red and black plaid hat.

Police are asking for the public’s help in this case.
