WASHINGTON — Former President Barack Obama’s White House tweeted one final, touching message to the country before Donald Trump took office.
On Friday morning, the tweeted, “Yes we can. Yes we did. Thank you for being a part of the past eight years.” Accompanying the words is a 2015 image of the Obama family marching with Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., and a crowd of others in Selma, Alabama.

The tweets from the Obama White House account are now archived and maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration. The former president’s archived Twitter account lives on at . On Friday morning, the account had a flurry of messages thanking supporters and looking toward the future:
