Charcoal grill causes Germantown house fire

WASHINGTON — An accidental fire caused by a charcoal grill on a deck resulted in $150,000 in damage to a Germantown, Maryland, home early Tuesday night.

A working smoke detector alerted the family of six about the fire, and they were able to safely escape the home on the 13400 block of Tilford Court.

No one was injured.

About 75 firefighters battled the blaze.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer tweets that the damage included $100,000 to the home and $50,000 to its contents.

The family has been displaced.
