WASHINGTON — Parents are tired of being the bad guy — and Robi Rawl, executive director with the group , says that when restaurants bundle sugary drinks into meals for kids, they put parents in that position.
So Sugar Free Kids is pushing for a bill to change that.
The Healthy Kids’ Meal Bill would take sugary drinks off the table in kids’ meals and have restaurants provide water, low-fat milk or juice as the “default drink” in a kids’ meal.
Maryland lawmakers are considering twin bills (HB 1090 and SB 742) in Annapolis. The first of two public hearings will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. before the House Economic Matters Committee.
