Authorities’ move-over law campaign reminds drivers to switch lanes, be safe

WASHINGTON — The Move Over Law education-and-enforcement campaign is underway.

Law enforcement will be out in force this week, reminding drivers to slow down or switch lanes when approaching an emergency vehicle stopped on the road.

, 138 law enforcement officers were fatally struck between 2003 and 2013 nationally. State police departments will be working alongside local agencies on the roads.

A first offense in Maryland, for example, could cost you $110 and a point on your driver’s license.

The campaign runs through Saturday.
