Mike Stinneford

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp Meteorologist

Storm Team 4 Meteorologist Mike Stinneford is a familiar voice to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp listeners, having been on the station since the 1990s when he was part of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp Channel Radio Network.

Mike relocated to the Washington area over 10 years ago, and is happy to be out of the horrible traffic of Atlanta. (Yes, the traffic is even worse than it is here!)

Mike began to be fascinated by weather at the age of 5 as he tried to imagine the weather symbols he saw on TV floating over his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. After graduating from high school, the pull of the mountains became too strong to ignore and he attended Brevard College in the mountains of western North Carolina. After leaving Brevard, Mike relocated to Atlanta and studied at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, where he met Joe D’Aleo, one of the original meteorologists at the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp Channel. This led to a job offer, and he spent 18 years at the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp Channel, becoming one of the founding members of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp Channel Radio Network. He has received numerous awards for weather coverage, including an international award for his work during Hurricane Opal’s devastating rampage across Atlanta.

Mike is an avid cyclist, and commutes to work by bicycle most days. The large network of bike paths in the area continue to be an amazement to him after the clogged streets of Atlanta. He spends much of his off time with his wife at their beloved mountain home just west of Front Royal, where they have a commanding view of the Skyline Drive and the Shenandoah Park from their front door. Mike enjoys the four distinct seasons that the area offers, but admits to buying a snow blower after 32 inches of snow fell at his home in January 2016.
