Joe Conway

Traffic Reporter

Joe is a proud native of Huntington, West Virginia. He has a bachelor’s degree in communications; for a few years after college, he did the whole “town to town, up and down the dial” radio thing before finally settling in the D.C. area (which he steadfastly refuses to ever call “the DMV”).

A self-described traffic nerd, Joe started reporting on the Washington area’s road conditions for Ƶapp in 2004 as an employee of Metro Networks, which at the time provided contract services to Ƶapp and other radio and TV stations. Besides working with legends like Lisa Baden and Brian Beddow, one of the biggest highlights of Joe’s years there was reporting by helicopter on traffic during President Barack Obama’s first inauguration in January 2009.

In early 2011, Ƶapp revamped and improved its traffic reporting operation by bringing it in-house. As a full-fledged, part-time Ƶapp employee, Joe added more traffic legends to his work-with list while growing his traffic and transit nerdery.

In addition to his long-time work in broadcasting, Joe is an experienced writer and editor. He worked for a number of years as a staff writer for a Virginia-based international sales consulting firm, and he has served on the communications teams of two national labor unions.

Joe is fascinated with all things transportation: walking, running (a five-time Marine Corps marathoner), cycling, buses and rail. He is a loyal fan of Liverpool F.C., with tattoos to prove it, and he takes in D.C. United matches when his schedule allows.

You can follow Joe on Twitter @JoeConwayƵapp and you can always tell him or any other member of the Ƶapp Traffic team about the major incidents you’re seeing on the roads by calling 866-304-Ƶapp.
