Southbound GW Parkway reopens after 1-vehicle crash

WASHINGTON — A crash on George Washington Parkway sent one person to the hospital and caused traffic delays Friday afternoon.

A driver crashed on the southbound lanes of the GW Parkway before the Francis Scott Key Bridge around 3:30 p.m. Only one vehicle was involved in the crash.

The driver has serious injuries after being ejected when the car rolled over, US Park Police said.

The crash and its investigation blocked all lanes of southbound GW Parkway in between the Key Bridge and the Roosevelt Bridge for hours. All lanes reopened at about 6:30 p.m.

Police have not released any additional details about the crash at the time, or if Friday’s heavy rain played a role.

Another crash occurred in the southbound lanes between the Key Bridge and the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. Arlington County Fire Department said that only minor injuries resulted from the crash across from Roosevelt Island.
