Students at two Alexandria City High School campuses had to switch to remote learning on Thursday after an anonymous threat put both campuses on lockdown.
“For the safety and security of our students and staff, the Alexandria City High School King Street and Minnie Howard Campuses are currently on lockdown status and today, October 14, 2021, will be an asynchronous day,” Alexandria City Public Schools .

On Thursday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m., that both campuses had resumed normal operations.
The school system said the Alexandria Police Department received an anonymous threat Wednesday night.
“APD is currently conducting a threat assessment to determine credibility,” ACPS said, and there will be more details after the assessment is complete.
Police said students were never at risk.
This聽comes a week after the same high school went under lock down after a student was found with a weapon on school grounds.
Separately, Alexandria police said they received a call around 9:30 a.m. Thursday about a shooting at Francis C. Hammond Middle School on Seminary Road. The school was temporarily put on lockdown. After a search, police determined the call was unfounded. A student was taken to the hospital after suffering a medical event while officers聽 conducted the search.
The Alexandria City Council recently voted to temporarily reinstate school resource officers.
