Pete Piringer, with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, told ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp that multiple agencies from Maryland and Virginia responded Saturday afternoon.

Crews were called to the area of Katie Island around 5:30 p.m. after two people were swept away from a “jon” boat.

They were treated on scene for minor injuries. Piringer said their boat has been lost downstream.

The water levels of the Potomac River were above normal and currents were strong after the recent storms in the D.C. area, which killed two people in Fairfax County and knocked out power for thousands of residents.

Ahead of the Memorial Day holiday, Piringer said his department has been raising awareness about the potentially treacherous water conditions in the Potomac River and Great Falls through its outreach program.

Wading and swimming are illegal in parts of the river, with obstacles such as debris, boulders and uprooted trees making the waters dangerous at times, according to Montgomery County Fire and EMS.

Virginia State Police said a state trooper witnessed a Hyundai Genesis speeding on the right shoulder of I-95 near Lorton. When the trooper tried to stop the car, the driver hit three other vehicles before exiting his car and fled.

Officers said the suspect, identified as Jamarion Jackson, then tried to break into two other cars before he found a third car with the passenger window rolled down. Police said Jackson tried to jump in the car through that window.

The driver of that car turned to get away and Jackson fell out of the vehicle and was run over, police said.

Jackson was transported to a hospital, suffering from a collapsed lung, broken back and broken neck, according to police.

Police said a Glock and equipment “to turn the pistol into an automatic firearm,” plus narcotics were found during a search of Jackson’s car.

Jackson is charged as a felon in possession of a gun, as well as with felony hit and run, attempted carjacking and reckless driving.

Federal prosecutors have been contacted about possible additional federal charges regarding the firearm, police said.

The suspect involved in the incident has been identified as Jonathan Jefferson, 28, of Northwest D.C. He was placed under arrest for four counts of Assault on a Police Officer.

Police responded to the 2400 block of Virginia Avenue shortly after 10:30 a.m.

Police said Jefferson was in “mental distress” and the Department of Behavior Health was called to the scene, D.C. police said in a news release.

When police attempted to take Jefferson into custody, he stabbed an officer in the neck.

Police said an officer used a Taser on Jefferson, “which did not take effect.”

The officer then shot Jefferson, police said.

“That individual received medical service on the scene and was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” said Second District Police Commander Tatjana Savoy. “The member that was stabbed in his neck received treatment on the scene.”

Four police officers are on administrative leave pending investigation.

Jefferson was charged with assault on police, the news release said.

The department said that body-worn camera footage of the shooting will be released, following D.C. law.

In a , D.C. police said officers responded around 6:22 p.m. to the 100 block of T Street SW on reports of a stabbing.

On the scene, they found 41-year-old Martin Gross Jr. of Northwest with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police detained the suspect in the stabbing, 49-year-old Wali Shabazz of Southwest D.C., nearby the scene. Shabazz has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder while armed.

Police said the two men knew each other, and the stabbing was “the result of a workplace dispute.”

The incident came about an hour before Saturday’s D.C. United’s Major League Soccer match against Seattle Sounders at Audi Field. The team said  the stabbing was an “isolated incident” and it was cooperating with investigators.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at a BP Gas Station in the 1500 block of Kenilworth Avenue in Northeast at about 11 p.m.

Preliminarily, one victim appears to have died at the scene of the shooting. Another person injured in the shooting has been taken to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Police have not identified any suspects in the shooting.

D.C. Fire and EMS said crews responded to the incident at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Farragut Street NW shortly before 7:30 a.m.

The Fire and EMS staff involved in the crash reported no injuries but were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The man in the other vehicle was extricated and taken to a trauma center.

According to D.C. police Cmdr. Nikki Lavenhouse, the passenger vehicle was traveling northbound while the ambulance was traveling southbound, and it seems the passenger vehicle left its lane.

Vito Maggiolo, the public information officer for Fire and EMS, said the ambulance was not carrying any passengers at the time of the crash — it was responding to a call.

It has “been a while” since a D.C. Fire and EMS vehicle was involved in “an accident of this magnitude,” Maggiolo said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
